John, I can’t stress enough how much I enjoy reading your column, or whatever it is you call what you do on this site. Always interesting, and often profound, it enhances my life.
Now onto the subject of mothers…..
Moms are great, and some moms are greater than others.
A half century ago. My mom told me that if a person asks me for $10, and I love that person, I should give him or her $20, because that’s probably the true amount they need. And if that person asks for 50, they probably are in need of 100.
I was able to follow that advice my whole life, and the person I would give money to always would say something like , “oh my God how did you know I really needed more than I asked for!”
