Tell you, my parents were primary school teachers, they begged me to get a teaching job because it was “secure,” and they were horrified that I moved to CA to seek my fortune. Then, years later, mom told me she’d watched teaching become as insecure as everything else, and was happy that I’d done what my heart wanted, because at least I was rising and falling in my chosen field.
(Mind, my parents were richer in retirement than they were in their working years, the last boomers on earth to do so, so teaching worked great for them)
